The Hirslanden Group and the owners of OPERAtionszentrum Zumikon have come to an agreement about the takeover of the outpatient surgical unit in April 2020. Hirslanden is thus consistently pushing ahead with its chosen strategy for outpatient surgery and is reorganising its outpatient surgical units throughout Switzerland.
With the takeover of OPERAtionszentrum Zumikon, Hirslanden is bringing together its existing and newly acquired day surgery units in a single organisational entity specifically established for this purpose. The current Manager of OPERAtionszentrum Zumikon, Dr. med. Daniela Centazzo, will hand over the operational management of the unit to Alexandra Mantsch and Stefan Kurz, who are currently members of the Executive Management, in April and will head Hirslanden’s new organisational entity as “Manager of Outpatient Surgical Centres”. Ms Centazzo has been working for the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group since July 2019.
“In future, operational surgical units will only be able to continue their development and existence as part of a network. I’m therefore very excited that we have found a new owner in Hirslanden with whom we have maintained a partnership at the highest quality level for several years,” says Daniela Centazzo. She is considered to be one of the pioneers of outpatient surgery in Switzerland and founded the OPERAtionszentrum Zumikon more than ten years ago. She has been working with Klinik Hirslanden in Zurich since 2015. In addition to her position as Manager of OPERA, Ms Centazzo also served there as Senior Physician in Anaesthesia.
The objective of the new organisational structure is to consistently continue to develop Hirslanden’s outpatient surgery offer in terms of quality and quantity and to establish outpatient surgical units with selected partners throughout Switzerland. “The acquisition of OPERAtionszentrum Zumikon ideally expands the current inpatient service offering of Klinik Hirslanden. With our specialised medical partners, we can now also offer pronounced added value in outpatient surgery for our patients,” says Stephan Pahls, Chief Operating Officer East of the Hirslanden Group. Daniel Liedtke, CEO of the Hirslanden Group, adds: “With our new organisational structure headed by Daniela Centazzo we are also strengthening our expertise in the management of outpatient surgical units, thus creating further opportunities for growth and supporting the global trend in ambulatory medicine.”
At present, Hirslanden operates two outpatient surgical units in Switzerland: Bellaria in Zurich and St. Anna im Bahnhof in Lucerne. Plans are afoot to open additional outpatient surgical units in St. Gallen at the beginning of this year and in Bern towards the end of 2020. As part of a public-private partnership with Geneva University Hospitals, the first outpatient surgical unit of its size will be set up in Geneva by the end of 2024.
The Hirslanden Private Hospital Group encompasses 17 hospitals in 10 cantons, most of them with an emergency department. The Group also operates 3 outpatient clinics, 2 outpatient surgery units, 17 radiology institutes and 5 radiotherapy institutes. The Group has 2,303 affiliated doctors and 10,442 employees, of whom 510 are permanently employed doctors. Hirslanden is the leading private hospital group and the largest medical network in Switzerland. In the 2018/19 financial year, the Group generated turnover of CHF 1,778 million. As at 31 March 2019, the Group had treated 106,851 patients, amounting to a total of 479,631 inpatient days. In insurance terms, the patient mix consists of 48.7% basic, 29.5% semi-private, and 21.8% private insured patients. The Hirslanden Private Hospital Group is synonymous with first-class medical care provided by highly qualified medical specialists with years of experience. As a system provider, Hirslanden stands out from the rest of the market: interdisciplinary medical centres of expertise and specialised institutes enable it to offer the best possible individualised treatment, even in highly complex cases. The Hirslanden Private Hospital Group was formed in 1990 through the merger of several Swiss private hospitals. Since 2007 it has been part of the international hospital group Mediclinic International plc, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
