Establishment of Hirslanden Campus Bern

After their merger on 1 October this year, Hirslanden Klinik Beau-Site and Hirslanden Salem-Spital will be managed jointly by a single management team. The joint management of the two hospitals located in close geographical proximity will allow the coordinated development and expansion of a medical campus in the city of Bern. Together, Klinik Beau-Site and Salem-Spital will offer a broad range of optimally coordinated outpatient and inpatient services, whereby the expansion of the outpatient offer is planned. 

Comprehensive conversion work has just started at Klinik Beau-Site to optimise the building for outpatient processes and to simplify patient journeys. This will allow the cardiac medicine and abdominal medicine departments in particular to offer patients a compact range of medical services. In another step planned for 2020, a centre for outpatient surgery will be built in the immediate vicinity of Salem-Spital. This is Hirslanden's reaction to the continuing shift of inpatient services to the outpatient area. Hirslanden is investing a total of 25 million Swiss francs for the planned projects in Bern.

Stéphan Studer, Chief Operating Officer West of the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group, explains the advantages of the new campus: “Patients in Bern will have access to a compact and comprehensive range of outpatient and inpatient medical services, including primary care, treatment in specialised areas and highly specialised medicine. Both our patients and our doctors will benefit from an even stronger inter-disciplinary cooperation as well as short distances.”

The Hospital Manager of Salem-Spital is leaving the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group at his own request on 30 September 2019 to take up a challenge outside the company. As announced by Hirslanden's press release of 26 March 2019, the position of Hospital Manager of Klinik Beau-Site will also be vacant from the end of September. Hirslanden has already begun the search for suitable candidates for the position of Manager of the medical Campus Bern.

Until a Hospital Manager has been appointed for Campus Bern, Claudine Jungo, Head of Performance Management and Hospital Development at Hirslanden Klinik Permanence and Dr.med. Julia Beel, until 2016 Head of Clinical Services at Hirslanden Bern AG and currently self-employed as manager of a consulting company will serve ad interim as co-managers and oversee the establishment of Hirslanden Campus Bern. Together, they will be responsible for Salem-Spital as well as Klinik Beau-Site.

Hirslanden Private Hospital Group

As of 31 March 2019, the Hirslanden Private Hospital Group comprises 18 hospitals in 11 cantons, many of which have an outpatient surgical centre and an Emergency department. The Group also operates 3 outpatient clinics, 2 outpatient surgery units, 17 radiology institutes and 5 radiotherapy institutes.
