Since the end of 2019 Kantonsspital Baselland (KSBL) and the Hirslanden Group have joined forces through a cooperation agreement for the treatment of disorders involving the musculoskeletal system. Under this public private partnership they are now planning to build a new outpatient surgical unit to be shared by both parties at the Bruderholz site
The current trend is clearly towards medicine on an outpatient basis. One reason for this is medical advances, which allow patients who have undergone surgery to go home again the very same day. The other is that outpatient surgical interventions are set to become even more important in future due to state regulations.
This is why the cooperation partners are bringing together their outpatient procedures in a new outpatient surgical centre at the Bruderholz site, OPERA Baselland. To ensure optimal use of the available capacities, the range of services will not just include orthopaedics, but also other fields of surgery.
In the context of a premium-quality setting all treatments will be completed in a matter of hours. If efficient procedures are to be ensured, numerous details need to be right for both patients and medical staff. This calls for simple integration, a modern infrastructure, standardised lean processes, trained staff and short distances. All requirements on high-quality, state-of-the-art medicine will be fulfilled at the new joint surgical centre for outpatients. It will offer its medical staff first-rate conditions for treating and looking after patients to optimum effect in an attractive environment. In anticipation of the trend towards increasing outpatient care, it will be possible to extend the building, if needed, quickly, economically and sustainably thanks to its modular design.
Hirslanden CEO Daniel Liedtke and Madeleine Stöckli, Chairman of the Board at KSBL, are both looking forward to their common project. Liedtke comments: «With this outpatient surgical centre we are greatly boosting added value for everyone in need of outpatient surgery in the canton Basel-Land. This unit will also allow us to offer all qualified doctors in the region a modern, top-quality working environment.» Stöckli stressed: «We are catering for the shift from inpatient to outpatient health care, following the «Focus» strategy that is entirely in line with this trend. Our patients benefit from short hospitalisation periods and top treatment quality at cutting-edge facilities specially created for them.» Both Liedtke and Stöckli are in no doubt about their shared goal of spearheading outpatient surgery in terms of medical and economic quality in the canton Basel-Land.
The Hirslanden Group operates 17 hospitals in 10 cantons, many of which have an emergency department. It also operates 4 outpatient surgical units, 17 radiology institutes and 5 radiotherapy institutes.
