Qualified gynaecologists and obstetricians who specialise in operative gynaecology and obstetrics are eligible to obtain an additional specialisation in urogynaecology. Urogynaecologists have expert knowledge and skills in the treatment of urological diseases (diseases of the urinary tract) in women.

This includes the diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as urinary incontinence, pelvic floor weakness, descensus uteri, bladder dysfunction, bowel dysfunction, as well as urogynaecological problems that arise during pregnancy or affect older women. Urogynaecologists carry out special procedures such as voiding cystourethrography (VCUG) and endoscopic examinations of the urinary tract. Urogynaecology encompasses the surgical and non-surgical treatment of urogynaecological diseases.
