OR and Specialist Nursing Care
The OR and specialist team at Klinik Beau-Site is very experienced and trained in the latest surgical techniques. Specially trained OR specialists, anaesthesia nurses, OR positioning experts as well as perfusionists work in this area. These specialists are available around the clock on a daily basis to carry out often highly specialised surgery efficiently and at a very high level.
The surgeons at Klinik Beau-Site rely on the professional support of an experienced OR team. In order to keep the level of care high, all our medical specialists undergo regular training courses and cultivate a team structure that is characterised by mutual respect and high esteem.
OR
OR nursing staff
The team of OR nurses is divided into specialist groups. That way out our surgeons are supported around the clock in all the disciplines offered. The major specialties are cardiac, thoracic, visceral and abdominal surgery.
Anaesthesia care
The anaesthesia nursing team takes care of patients before, during and after a surgical procedure. It works closely with specialist doctors of the Institute for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine and all other services working in the OR and on the wards – an important prerequisite for providing optimum care to our patients.
Surgical positioning
A team of qualified specialists in OR positioning meets the patient in the OR transfer area and positions them on the OR table. The patient is specially prepared for the scheduled procedure. Specialists in OR positioning also operate different medical equipment during the operation and maintain the OR tables and positioning materials. After the procedure, the patients are expertly transferred to another bed, accompanied to the OR transfer area and handed over to the nurses of the ICU or monitoring ward.
Sterile materials
The sterilisation assistants at Klinik Beau-Site are tasked with preparing and sterilising all the surgical instruments used in the OR. After the instruments have been cleaned in cutting-edge instrument cleaning units, they are then checked to ensure that they are working properly. Maintained and packed into instrument sets on the basis of special schemes, the instruments are once more available for use in the operating theatre.
Cardiotechnology
During the majority of heart operations, the heart is immobilised and the heart-lung machine (HLM) used. It takes over the functions of the heart and lungs during the surgery by pumping blood through the body, removing carbon dioxide and providing oxygen. The machine also regulates the body temperature, the water and electrolyte balance and the acid-alkaline balance. This is known as extra-corporeal circulation, ECC. During the entire ECC, the HLM is operated by a cardiac technician.
The four cardiac technicians at Klinik Beau-Site are also tasked with preparing, running and monitoring intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to support the heart and/or lungs so they can recover.
Cardiac catheterisation lab
Klinik Beau-Site has three fully digitised heart catheter labs (HCL), one of which is specialised in the examination and treatment of patients with cardiac arrhythmias. Thanks to our modern infrastructure, short communication paths and high expertise, we can also act quickly in emergencies. This way, a stroke patient is often admitted to the emergency department, then examined and treated in HCL in less than half an hour.
The treatment methods are divided into two categories: invasive-rhythmological procedures in electrophysiology, and catheter-based procedures such as minimally invasive heart valve replacement. This is a good alternative to classic heart surgery for patients who face a greater operative risk.
