The hip

A highly solicited articulation

> Hip conditions can be accidental or degenerative. Conventional surgery can treat fractures, which are often caused in the elderly by osteoporosis.

Hip pain can also be caused by significant wear and tear on the articular cartilage. Walking, climbing and descending stairs are then made difficult and limit the mobility of patients in their daily lives.

  • The first treatments for osteoarthritis of the hip consist of regular intake of painkillers or joint infiltrations.
  • However, an operation is often considered to relieve pain more permanently. Specialist orthopedists then replace the worn hip joint with a prosthesis. This widespread operation allows patients to quickly regain normal activity and complete mobility.

The lifespan of prostheses has increased considerably with the technological advances of recent years and it is not uncommon for the same prosthesis to remain in place for twenty years.

> Trauma to the hip or small repetitive traumas, sustained during certain movements or during sports activities, can cause a lesion of the hip bead or labrum. This is most often related to bone deformities in the femur or pelvis or both.

These lesions cause pain, blockages and sometimes even stiffness and lameness when walking, requiring the significant use of anti-inflammatories, painkillers and sometimes even arthroscopic or open surgery  in the hip.

The knee

The largest joint in our body is at the same time the most complex.

Only the perfect harmony of the different anatomical structures, ligaments, muscles, cartilage and bone ensures stability, mobility and responsiveness, even for the most demanding activities; And this for many years and millions of steps. Repeated solicitations of the knee or trauma can lead to lesions requiring the help of the orthopedic surgeon.

  • The most frequently performed procedures concern the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee and ligament and meniscal lesions which are performed arthroscopically in a minimally invasive way.
  • Advanced cases of osteoarthritis are treated by the placement of a total or unicompartmental prosthesis. Follow-up and changes of prostheses are also taken care of by our surgeons.
  • Osteotomy is used to correct defects in the axes of the lower limb.
  • Fractures and instabilities of the patella also benefit from advanced surgical treatments.

Specialized surgeons as well as state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic tools are at your disposal to guarantee you optimal treatment.
