Anatomy

Anatomy

The heart is one of the human body’s most powerful muscles. It consists of two ventricles and two atria, and is hardly larger than a closed fist. Approximately 100,000 times a day, an electrical impulse causes thousands of muscle fibres to contract and relax in sync, supplying all our cells and organs with oxygen and nutrients via the blood vessels.

Cardiological Diagnostics

Cardiological Diagnostics

Cardiovascular diseases are the most common cause of death in Switzerland. Although heart- and vascular diseases mostly appear insidiously they are perfectly manageable with the right therapy.

The earlier a cardiological disease is identified and treated, the better the prognosis. The diagnosis is made based on the present symptoms and various examinations. Depending on the suspected disease, the specialist will apply further diagnostic procedures (not-invasive or invasive).

The not-invasive diagnostic procedures include the echocardiogram, the electrocardiogram, blood sampling and the MRT. Invasive examinations are always connected with a short surgical procedure (for example a small skin incision).

Diseases and Treatment

Disease patterns & Therapy

The term cardiovascular diseases include all kinds of diseases regarding the heart and blood vessels. The most common cardiological diseases include strokes, arteriosclerosis, heart attack, cardiac arrhythmia as well as varices and phlebitis.

Depending on the type of the cardiological disease, the patient is treated with surgery or medication.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation

After severe heart disease or heart surgery, patients tend to reduce physical activity. It is crucial to plan the next steps with therapeutic support.

Rehabilitation helps patients to feel safer and more confident with physical activities. Patient rehabilitation is either ambulatory or stationary.

Precaution

Cardiological Prevention

Risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases are, in particular, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, overweight and diabetes.

Depending on the patient’s health condition, regular medical check-ups are crucial. According to the anamnesis, the specialists will do angiological and cardiological examinations to determine possible risks and to discuss further procedures.
