The kids & co Salem childcare centre is located between the Kursaal and Salem-Spital in a beautiful, traffic-free setting with its own garden and offers professional childcare for children from three months to preschool age.
The centre is geared towards a holistic approach to education. The children are individually encouraged, supported and accompanied in their personal development (physical, psychological, social, emotional, cognitive). Employees act and work in accordance with the Code of Conduct of the Swiss Childcare Association.
Co-operation with parents is an important part of childcare. It includes a mutual exchange of information and counselling with the parents for the benefit of the child.
The centre is run by the not-for-profit profawo association, of which Hirslanden is a member and from which Hirslanden employees are entitled to receive additional services. Find all the benefits here.

Swapped days
If, as an exception, a child cannot attend the centre on the usual day, the day can be swapped free of charge within the same calendar week, provided a place is available on the desired day. The request must be received by the centre management at least 48 hours in advance.
Observation visits
In order to provide an insight into everyday life at the centre and help parents understand our educational work, the centre offers parents the opportunity to come and observe us by appointment. A visit of this kind lasts 1-2 hours and includes meetings before and after the observation with the centre management. All further information can be obtained by calling the centre management.
Learning German before pre-school
The centre participates in the city of Bern's support programme for pre-school children who speak little or no German.
Opening hours
Monday to Friday from 6.30 am to 6.00 pm
Open all year round. The kids & co Salem childcare centre will only be closed between Christmas and New Year, as well as on the Friday after Ascension Day and on one team training day per year.
Out-of-hours supervision
On request, kids & co Salem offers childcare during off-peak hours.
Catering
The centre cooks its own meals. Our cook prepares varied, balanced and fresh meals. Thanks to a dedicated kitchen, the children are very aware of the topics of nutrition and food.
- The centre serves breakfast, morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack.
- The centre is certified with the «Fourchette verte» label.
- Powdered milk is brought in by the parents.
Activities
Various activities and rituals guide us through the day at the centre. The child is accompanied and follows a regular daily routine.
- A child-friendly garden and a large indoor play room, which encourages movement and active play for children.
- From May to September, the groups spend a whole day in the forest every week.
Children should be able to use the forest as a place to play and live. The children really enjoy eating by the fire, sleeping under the trees and discovering the many wonders of nature.
The forest days are aimed at the whole group of children and take place in all weathers. In the event of very cold temperatures and heavy rain, it is the responsibility of the centre management to cancel the event.

- Discount for Hirslanden employees CHF 30.00 per day

Children under 12 months
- Childcare rate CHF 137.50 per day
- Discount for Hirslanden employees CHF 30.00 per day
- Meal rate CHF 0.00 per day
The discount for Hirslanden employees is made up of the member discount of CHF 10.00 from Profawo and an employer contribution of CHF 20.00 per day.
The kids & co Salem childcare centre is registered with KIBON, the cantonal childcare voucher system. The costs for meals are not part of the childcare voucher and are shown and invoiced separately. Information on childcare vouchers can be found here.
