All the embryo’s organs are now present and some have already started functioning. Arms, hands, legs and feet are all clearly visible. Fingers and toes are still bound together by folds of skin.
In boys, the testicles start to develop. The brain develops particularly fast: it generates around 100,000 new nerve cells every minute. The head appears disproportionately large compared to the rest of the body. The muscles are also growing rapidly and are now connected to the nervous system and the brain. The embryo moves frequently and its movements and somersaults can be easily observed in the ultrasound images.
You are in the third month of your pregnancy. At this stage, any unpleasant side effects of the pregnancy usually diminish to a large extent. If you have been suffering from extreme tiredness, this often improves from week nine onwards. However, other symptoms may now occur, such as sensitivity to smell, constipation or hair loss.
