The child’s development continues to progress; all its organ systems are now formed and functional. The lungs are already practising how to breathe.
By swallowing and expelling amniotic fluid, the embryo practises for life after birth. Its sense of touch is also highly developed: now it can feel your heartbeat.
Your child is still growing rapidly. Now it is as big as a fist. You might notice that your previously comfortable pants are starting to pinch around the waist, or your favourite skirt no longer sits as it should. But you can easily regain your freedom of movement with the right clothing – the 4th and 5th weeks of pregnancy are still a good time for travelling and taking holidays.
Some women feel restless during this period and have trouble falling asleep.
The cause for this can be their increased oestrogen level, which is necessary for a healthy pregnancy.
