Numerous oncological specialists work together closely at Klinik Hirslanden’s Bowel Cancer Centre to provide bowel cancer patients with the best possible treatment The specialists come from a variety of different medical disciplines (e.g. gastroenterology, surgery, radiology, pathology, oncology, radiotherapy) and have extensive expertise in the treatment of cancer of the intestine. They advise each other and jointly develop each patient’s personalised therapy plan.
The Bowel Cancer Centre hosts regular interdisciplinary tumour boards, so that the specialists can pool their knowledge and expertise. The specialists who meet on these boards discuss each patient’s treatment plan and the anticipated success of the treatment. The Bowel Cancer Centre is part of the Tumour Centre Hirslanden Zurich.
Cancer in the large intestine (colon carcinoma) and rectum (rectal carcinoma) are collectively referred to as colorectal carcinomas. They are malignant growths in the mucous membranes inside the intestine. These tumours are typically referred to as bowel cancer, although other parts of the bowel (e.g. the small intestine) are rarely affected.
