Thomas Bührer has been hospital manager of Hirslanden Bern (Hirslanden Klinik Beau-Site, Klinik Permanence and Salem-Spital) since August 2023 and has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Hirslanden Group in his additional role as Chief Operating Officer Mittelland Region since October 2024. Prior to that, he was deputy hospital manager and Head of the Medical System business unit at Hirslanden Bern. Thomas Bührer holds a degree in human medicine and a doctorate from the University of Basel and is a specialist in surgery. He also holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen and a Diploma of Advanced Studies MedLaw from the University of Zurich. He completed his further clinical training in Basel, Liestal, Olten and Solothurn. At the Solothurn Hospitals, Thomas Bührer subsequently took on various management tasks in addition to his clinical duties as assistant physician in the surgical accident and emergency ward at Bürgerspital Solothurn, most recently as Head of Projects & Special Services in the Medical Directorate. From 2018 to 2021, Thomas Bührer held the position of Deputy Senior Field Physician/Head of Military Medical Service and was a member of the Executive Board for Medical Services at the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS).
