Insurance and upgrades: what you need to know to anticipate medical costs
Does my health insurance cover my costs? How am I covered during my maternity leave? Do I need to take out additional cover? Announcing a pregnancy is a happy event, but it also raises a number of questions and concerns, particularly about the costs of a stay in the maternity unit during childbirth. Depending on whether you have supplementary private or semi-private insurance, certain services will be included for you, or you may be able to take out an upgrade to benefit from the full range of services. If you have any other questions, our midwives will be happy to help and advise you during your stay. All doctors' fees and your stay in the maternity ward in a single room are covered under the terms of your supplementary insurance contract.
Prices with private supplementary insurance
The doctors’ fees are covered based on your supplementary insurance policy.
Prices with semi-private supplementary insurance
Your stay in the maternity ward is paid for in a double room, depending on your supplementary insurance contract. However, if you would like to enjoy the peace of mind of a single room with your newborn baby, there are several options available to you:
- CHF 2,900 for an upgrade to Private category with a private room and access to all the services and advantages reserved for the Private category.
- CHF 200 per night for an upgrade to a private room without the services and advantages of the Private category, if available. You will be given confirmation on your day of admission or during your stay.
If you would like to take out this option, please let us know when you register. We will do our best to meet your requirements, but please note that it may be possible to accommodate your request subject to availability at the time of your stay. We will give you confirmation on the day of your arrival or during your stay.
Insurance for your baby
Do not forget to take out health insurance for your baby. It is possible to register prenatally with your health insurance company, but you must have taken out retroactive basic insurance for your child three months after birth at the latest.
