We are committed to offering patients the best possible treatment tailored to their situation. We suggest various treatment options to the patient, depending on the kind of cancer they are suffering from. More information about the treatments given can be found below.
ACTIVE SURVEILLANCE
Certain prostate cancers that progress slowly and are not very aggressive require active surveillance. No surgical intervention or radiation is planned for these cancers. Every six months, the patient will see their urologist for a check-up and, if necessary, additional examinations will be performed (imaging, biopsy).
SURGERY
An operation known as a radical prostatectomy involves the removal of the prostate. It may be complemented by clearing and ablation of the nearby nodes. The procedure is generally minimally invasive and assisted by the da Vinci® surgical system. This is the world’s most state-of-the-art remote manipulator and allows the urological surgeon to make more accurate movements during surgery while also offering improved 3D visibility
RADIOTHERAPY
This technique consists of delivering high-energy X-rays to destroy the cancerous cells, while sparing the surrounding healthy tissue as far as possible. Radiotherapy is provided on an outpatient basis over 4 to 8 weeks.
Hirslanden Lausanne Radio-Oncology Institute offers stringent and innovative treatments in a caring environment.
HORMONE THERAPY AND CHEMOTHERAPY
In some situations, hormone therapy or chemotherapy may be proposed, either alone or in combination with radiotherapy.
SUPPORTIVE CARE
Supportive care may be combined with specific cancer treatments in order to improve patient’s wellbeing and to preserve their quality of life: pain treatment, physiotherapy, nutritional advice, support by a psycho-oncologist, sexology consultation, social assistance, etc.
INSURANCE COVER
All outpatient services (radiology, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, specialist consultations) are covered by basic insurance.
In the event of admission to hospital, patients with basic insurance may also, under certain conditions, undergo surgery at Clinique Cecil.
